We would rather save a tree than sell you a removal
A mature tree adds real value to a Toronto property, and it cannot be replaced in a hurry — a 60-year-old maple takes 60 years to replace. So the first thing we do is work out whether the tree actually needs to come down.
- A real assessment first. We look at the trunk, the union points and the crown before quoting, not just the parts you can see from the driveway.
- Rigging, not dropping. Most Toronto yards have no room to fell a tree, so sections come down on ropes — over fences, garages and gardens without damage.
- Permits handled properly. Toronto’s tree by-law carries fines that can run to five figures. We measure first and tell you what is required.
- The mess is our problem. Wood and brush go with us and the site gets raked down. That is in the price, not an extra.

Before you cut: Toronto protects most large private trees
Under Municipal Code Chapter 813, a private tree measuring 30 cm or more in diameter at 1.4 m above ground is protected, and removing one without a permit can bring fines starting at $500 and reaching into the tens of thousands. Dead, dying and hazardous trees are treated differently, but the City still expects documentation.

Common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Toronto?
Often, yes. Under Toronto's Private Tree By-law (Municipal Code Chapter 813), a tree on private property with a trunk diameter of 30 cm or more — measured at 1.4 m above the ground — is protected, and you generally need a permit before it can be removed. Smaller trees usually are not. We measure the trunk during the estimate and tell you plainly which side of the line you are on before any work is booked.
How much does tree work cost?
It depends on the size of the tree, how close it is to buildings and wires, and how we can get equipment and debris in and out. A small backyard tree with clear access is a very different job from a large maple that has to be rigged down over a roof. We give you a firm price in writing after looking at the tree — no guessing over the phone.
Do you clean up afterwards?
Yes. Every quote includes removing the wood and brush and raking the site down. From the first assessment to the final cleanup, you should not be left with a pile to deal with.

Can you tell me whether a tree needs to come down?
That is exactly what the assessment is for. Plenty of trees that look alarming are sound and just need deadwood taken out or a limb reduced, and some can be kept with cabling instead of removal. If a tree can reasonably be saved, we will say so.
