Tree Service in High Park, Roncesvalles & the West End

We cross town regularly for work in the west end. Roncesvalles, Swansea, Bloor West Village and the streets around High Park combine Victorian and Edwardian housing stock with an unusually good tree canopy, and the mix of tight lots and large trees makes for demanding climbing.

Oak country

The area around High Park sits on one of the last remnants of black oak savannah in Ontario — a genuinely rare ecosystem, and the reason the park is managed the way it is. Black oaks turn up on private property throughout the surrounding streets, and they deserve careful treatment.

One practical consequence: oaks should not be pruned between roughly April and the end of July, because fresh wounds in the growing season attract the sap beetles that spread oak wilt. If you have an oak that needs work, we will generally recommend waiting for the dormant season unless the limb in question is a genuine hazard. It is worth the wait.
