Tree Service on the Danforth & in East York

North of the Danforth the lots open up. East York’s post-war bungalows and 1.5-storey houses came with real back gardens, and the trees planted in them in the 1950s and 60s are now large, mature specimens — a lot of Norway maple, silver maple and blue spruce reaching the end of a comfortable life.

The good news is that access here is usually far better than further south. Many properties have a driveway we can get a chipper onto, which brings the cost of a removal down noticeably compared with the same tree in Riverdale.

Ravine-edge properties: check before you cut

Properties backing onto the Taylor Creek and Don valley ravine system come with an extra layer of rules. Beyond the standard private tree by-law, land within a protected ravine and natural feature area is subject to additional City controls, and conservation authority regulations may apply as well. In practice that means the permit process for a tree near the ravine edge can be more involved than for the same tree on a flat lot two streets away.
